[ArXiv] 1st week, Jan. 2008
It’s a rather short list, this week and I hope I can maintain this conciseness afterwards. Happy new year to everyone.

I think it is not a good use of the track back system for people just to list recent papers in their blogs. I think track backs should only be used when the blog writer has some informative comments to make about the paper. Otherwise a lot of people will waste time clicking track backs which add nothing to the paper.

As I’ve noted earlier, I think Hyunsook’s lists are a great resource. Chris, in case you don’t know, these lists are of the papers with significant astrostatistical content, culled from several large lists of papers covering multiple disciplines and subdisciplines. I for one have found those original lists too overwhelmingly large to keep up with. I don’t know how much longer Hyunsook will be able to keep up with them herself, but as long as she can, I for one am grateful to her for the service of highlighting an interesting subset of papers.

Every time I type the trackback addresses, I become skeptical at my deeds (Typing itself has been tedious). After seeing Chris’ comment, I decided to wait for a reply until my next [ArXiv] to thank for relieving my burden but now I see Tom’s kind comment. My primary decision was to stop adding trackbacks for the weekly lists. In contrast, if I factor out one [arXiv] paper for a discussion, that paper will get a trackback. As Vinay suggested, reviewing a few individual papers per week (with trackbacks) will be ideal but the speed of paper uploads and my capacity of taking the inflow and filtering haven’t found the optimal point, yet. Thanks for the comments!
