We are organizing a compact and energetic workshop on the relationship between supernova remnants and young neutron stars. Following on the theme established in a similar workshop in Elba, Italy (1998), and as a prelude to a possible symposium on this topic at the IAU General Assembly in 2003, the main goals of the workshop are to review our current understanding and to discuss research strategies in the era of unprecended observational capabilities spanning the electromagnetic spectrum. Current problems, both observational and theoretical, will be addressed.
- Pulsars, Magnetars, etc. in Supernova Remnants
- Pulsar-Driven Nebulae: Theory vs. Observation
- Interactions Between Plerions and SNRs
- Recent Results from Across the Spectrum
- Related Theories
The registration deadline has now passed, and the workshop is booked to capacity. New registrations are no longer being accepted. We have booked a block of rooms for the participants at the John Hancock Conference Center, two blocks from the workshop location. The conference rate for rooms is US$140 (single), US$150 (double), plux tax. Unfortunately, no rooms are available for Saturday, Aug 18 (the day after the workshop). The phone number for reservations is +1 617-572-7700. Reservations can also be made by FAX (+1 617-572-7709), or through e-mail to Carolyn Chin Ferris (cchinferris@jhancock.com). Please mention the "Neutron/Supernova" block of rooms.
We have also reserved a small number of dormitory rooms at Senior House at MIT (70 Amherst Street, Cambridge) at a nightly rate of US$50 (single), US$60 (double). These rooms provide a lower-cost alternative to a hotel, but are about a 15-20 minute subway ride from the conference site. Only a limited number of such rooms are available, and must be requested on the conference registration page.
Room availability at both of these locations is limited, so early registration is strongly encouraged.

The workshop will be held in the Dorothy Quincy Suite, at John Hancock Hall, in Boston, Massachusetts. We have booked blocks of rooms for the participants at two locations, described above. Hotel rooms in Boston are expensive, and the rates that we are arranging will hold until until the registration deadline. Participants are encouraged to register early to ensure availability of accommodations.Boston is an historic American city with thriving academic surroundings. Summers offer a wide variety of activities including walking tours through the city, whale watching excursions, museum visits, and baseball games - all within easy access of the meeting site. Further information on Boston and Cambridge can be found at
The proceedings of the workshop will be published in the conference proceedings of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. All registered participants will receive a copy of these proceedings at no extra charge.Click here for author instructions.
The manuscript deadline will be 30 November 2001 . Due to the need to edit and publish this volume promptly, no extensions can be granted to this deadline.
Recreational activities will be offered on the afternoon of Thursday 16 Aug 2001. Options currently available are Major League Baseball (Boston Red Sox vs Seattle Mariners), a whale-watching tour in and around Boston Harbor, or the famous Boston "Duck Tour". See details and other recommended activities here, and make reservations and payments here.
