HEASARC is a joint project of the Astrophysics Science Division at NASA/GSFC and the High Energy Astrophysics Division at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. Data archives are stored at the NASA/GSFC site, along with a wide selection of high-energy data analysis software and many active observatory pages.

This site contains information about and links to FITS file formats, atomic databases, and software developed in whole or in part at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.
These projects may or may not have been funded directly via HEASARC grants, but are related to HEASARC objectives and so included here.
Software Projects
Software to benefit the astronomical community and especially the X-ray astronomy community. Current software projects include:

XPA | Simple, seamless communication between many types of programs (e.g., Unix, X, Tcl/Tk) |
Zhtools | Stand-alone tools to process FITS astronomical images and X-ray data in general, developed by Alexey Vikhlinin |
simx | General-purpose event simulator for a range of current and proposed high-energy satellite missions |
Past Projects | A number of SAO software packages, including Funtools, NCL, SAOtng, ASSIST, and ECT are not under current development but are still available. |
