SAOimage for remote users

If you are using PROS/IRAF via remote logon to another computer, and if you have an imaging terminal, SAOimage, can be used to display data but you must setup as follows:

  1. Initiate X windows on your home terminal before logging on to the remote computer. If you remote logon first, then initiate X windows, the windows appear on the remote computer, rather than your home terminal. This frequently kills the remote computer which then requires rebooting.
  2. Initiate SAOimage so that it opens on your home terminal.

      xp> ximtool nasa#: 0

    An alternate procedure is to set your computer name in the unix environment variable, DISPLAY (located in the .login file). To check this type the unix command:

      cfa#: printenv DISPLAY
       DISPLAY=whouse.washington.gov:0.0
