A few papers from astro-ph may drag statisticians’ attention and a statistical paper may be helpful for astronomers, keen on confidence intervals utilizing prior information.

In addition, an interesting but short paper on Shannon Information, Maximum Entropy, and diversity measure for Bayesian techniques to be included, appeared in arxiv.

The Wittman et al. paper on photometry errors may be of interest to DvD et al. They model photometry noise as a combination of a central Gaussian peak and exponential tails and suggest that the Gaussian part comes from standard photon counting statistics (Poisson in the high counts limit) and the tails from “other effects”, possibly crowding. I suspect though that spectral variations are the primary cause for departures from Normality.
