ChaMPlane Observation

Magellan 6.5m/LDSS-2 July 25-28, 2001

I. LDSS-2 Multi-slit Spectroscopy

LDSS-2 Multi-slit Spectroscopy will cover following three fields in order of priority. All of them have been observed with Chandra. Their deep Mosaic imaging were taken at CTIO in May 2000. Use Med/Blue grism with NO blocking filter for the multi-slit and single slit spectra.

3. SgrA* Field

SgrA* Field spectral observation was carried out in May 2001 with Magellan 6.5m/LDSS-2. Nine multi-slit masks were cut to cover 94 sources in the SgrA* field. 86 out of the 94 are X-ray sources, 10 are Ha sources, two of the Ha sources are also X-ray sources. Some sources are covered by two masks. The first 6 high priority masks were observed. The rest of 3 were not observed.

(*) The assumed field center is the reference position for the targets. This was used to generate the delta(RA) and delta(Dec) values in the mask generation program. Click on the mask name to see the mask map. The mask PA = 135 deg, so E is to the upper right, N to lower right (these directions are labeled on the finding chart). Primary targets (optical counterparts to X-ray sources and sky slits) are shown in red circles, the alignment stars with blue circles and several bright red giants (useful for fixing the telescope pointing) are shown with maroon circles. Click on the Finding Chart name to see the Finding Chart (~3' x 3') for that mask, based on a WFPC2 mosaic. E & N directions are as labeled. Sources with ID numbers less than 200 are optical counterparts; greater than 500 and less than 600 are sky slits; greater than 1000 are alignment stars

Here is a list of all the source positions in RA and Dec. This includes the target optical counterparts, the sky slits and the mask alignment stars, as numbered above. This is a similar list except it gives the offset source positions with respect to RA = 00 24 05.29, Dec = -72 04 52.7, the assumed field center given above. Here is a list of the positions of 6 bright red giants shown in the finding chart (in the HST coordinate frame used to generate the masks).

IV. LMC X-3

To measure the radial velocity of LMC X-3. Use high grism and NO blocking filter for the single slit spectra.
