Champlane Observation

Magellan 6.5m/LDSS-2 May 17-20, 2001

I. LDSS-2 Multi-slit Spectroscopy

Nine multi-slit masks are cut to cover 94 sources in the SgrA* field. 86 out of the 94 are X-ray sources, 10 are Ha sources, two of the Ha sources are also X-ray sources. Some sources are covered by two masks.

Please do one hour (2 x 30min) exposure for each mask in order of priority.

Priorities are sorted by number of slits on the mask, except for mask SgrA9 with priority 7, which has 5 slits all for relatively bright Ha sources

Click a Mask name to see the mask map. E-left & N-up.

Click a Offset Chart name to see the Offset Chart, which shows the source offsets in arcseconds, where crosses are slit positions and boxes are alignment star positions. E-left & N-up.

Click a Finding Chart name to see the Finding Chart (8.1' x 6.5') for that mask, which is a deep R image taken with CTIO/4m/MosaicII. The sources are circled on the image with ID numbers and R magnitudes.

Sources with ID numbers less than 200 are X-ray sources; greater than 500 and less than 600 are Ha sources; greater than 1000 are alignment stars

Here is a list of all the sources, including the sources covered by the masks, mask alignment stars and the left over sources for the slit spectroscopy, with their ID, Rmag, RA and Dec,

Here is the same list, but instead of absolute RA and Dec are the RA and Dec offset in arcecond from the coordinate 17 45 40.00, -29 00 28.0.

II. Single slit Spectroscopy

Here are 29 isolated sources not covered by the masks. After the mask exposures are done. Do source in this list as many as possible in order of priority.

III. Observing Chart and Almanac

Here is an observing chart showing the locus of SgrA* during the night. Horizontal axis is the time in hours. Space between two gray bars are the astronomital twilight zone. Versitcal axis is the distance of the object above horizon in 10-degrees.
