The Chandra X-ray Observatory, (formerly known as AXAF, the Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility), which was launched and deployed by Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-93 ) in July of 1999, is the most sophisticated X-ray observatory built to date. It is designed to observe X-rays from high energy regions of the universe, such as the remnants of exploded stars.

Most of our work on Chandra X-ray Observatory mirror calibration is viewable at the Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility Mission Support Team Simulations and Analysis Group site.

Technical calibration and operations information can be viewed here

View status reports, stories, etc at The Chandra Chronicles.
