I am currently a research scientist at Harvard-Smithsonian
Center for Astrophysics in the area of High Energy Astrophysics.
Research in this area is concentrated on those astronomical
objects that emit some of their energy in X rays (which includes
virtually all classes of astronomical objects), with observations
made from balloons, rockets, and satellites. Scientific studies
are directed at a broad range of topics, including the processes
involved in the generation of X rays and the role of this
emission in the evolution of these objects and in cosmology.
Work includes the development of new instrumentation for satellites,
rockets, and balloons; participation in various space astrophysics
missions; data center operations; information systems development;
science center development and operations; space observatory
flight operations; and educational outreach.
My primary interests are X-ray astronomy, spectroscopy, the
solar wind, the diffuse soft X-ray background, supernova remnants,
nonequilibrium ionization, and the hot interstellar medium.
