Previous Education

From 2005 to 2008 I was a PhD student in the Solar & Magnetospheric Theory Group at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, supervised by Dr Duncan Mackay and Prof. Eric Priest. I successfully defended my thesis Development and Application of a Global Magnetic Field Evolution Model for the Solar Corona on 8th January 2009.

From 2001 to 2005 I studied at the University of Durham, obtaining a first class MMath degree. For my final year project, entitled "Mathematical models of traffic flow", I studied a theoretical model from nonequilibrium statistical mechanics known as the asymmetric exclusion process. See my poster (pdf).

Between my third and fourth years at Durham I was awarded an Undergraduate Summer Research Bursary in Mathematics at Keele University, where I studied a problem in fluid stability theory with Dr J.J. Healey.

I attended Ilford County High School in Essex from 1994 to 2001, studying A levels in Maths, Further Maths, Electronics, Art, and Geography. I also took two STEP papers in Mathematics.
