These five documents are described below. XC01, XC02, and XC05 are available below as text and are searchable. They are also availble in text and Word 6 formats via ftp to amelia.
Below is a summary of the content of DR XC01: HRMA and SI X-ray Calibration Plan.
The intent of the plan is to identify all the major activities associated with, and provide a general description of, the x-ray calibration of the HRMA and the HRMA/SI combination. Included in XC01 is the following information:
If you would like a summary of the Scheduled X-ray Calibrations and Pre-Calibration Rehearsals, or would like to download an ASCII version of the complete document, Click here.
This document give the top level requirements (performance and workmanship) for all of the ground support equipment used during x-ray calibration at XRCF. A table of salient requirements for the major GSE subsystems click here.
The development of XC03 is one of the primary focii of the CIT. A detailed draft version is required prior to the start of the pre-calibration rehearsals. The final version is required prior to the HRMA arrival at the X-ray Calibration Facility (XRCF).
Below is a summary of the content of XC03.
XC03 is the top-level Procedure that will be executed in order to perform the calibration of the HRMA and the SIs at Marshall Space Flight Center's (MSFC) XRCF. As such, it provides a detailed definition of all activities associated with this effort. The form of this top-level procedure is analogous to a main computer program which "calls" a series of sub-routines to execute the detailed, individual tasks. The sub-routines correspond the sub-procedures that will be generated by the various team members.
The review, baselining, and release-for-use of these sub-procedures will be controlled by the Procedure Change Control Office (PCCO.... Future link to the PCCO Subprocedure release status matrix)
HRMA/SI calibration is defined as that time period between the arrival of the HRMA at the XRCF (01 November 1996), and the departure of the HRMA from the XRCF (01 May 1997).
XC03 is divided into TWO parts: (1) A traditional pen-and-ink part that controls all the logistical aspects of the HRMA and SI's and (2) an on-line, MCC based, electronic procedure which controls the execution of the actual x-ray data collection measurements after the HRMA/SI's have reached IC vacuum thermo-equilibrum.
Part One of XC03 (logistical pen-and-ink) controls such HRMA and SI
calibration activities as receipt, unloading, inspecting, cleaning, staging,
alignment, installation into the IC, IC evacuation and thermal equilibriation,
IC repressurization, removal from IC, and packing for shipment of the HRMA
and SI's. Part One also provides a formal mechanisms whereby the XRCF,
all XRCF Special Test Equipment (STE), and user provided XRCF Ground Support
Equipment (GSE) is verified to be operationally ready for the commencement
of the x-ray calibration, prior to the HRMA arrival.
Also included is the following information:
The second part of XC03 is based on, and developed from the Calibration Measurement DataBase (CMDB).
This document is a record of the as performed activities and the results. The document is due ~90 days after the completion of the calibration activity.
This document is the second of two volumes. The first volume defines the interfaces relevant to the X-ray testing of the Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility (AXAF) Verification Engineering Test Article I (VETA-I), while this volume is concerned with the High Resolution Mirror Assembly (HRMA) and the Focal Plane Science Instruments (FPSI).
There is a second book comprised of standard engineering drawings precisely defining the relevant equipment and interfaces. This book is called XC05 Book 2, with place holders where appropriate for undefined hardware.
It is the purpose of this document to define the interfaces among the various team- member-supplied equipment necessary to support a successful HRMA/Science Instrument (SI) calibration. The X-ray testing is to be carried out at the X-ray Calibration Facility (XRCF) at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). By providing the definition of the various interfaces, this document is intended to serve as a foundation for control of the interfaces for the HRMA test to be conducted at the MSFC XRCF.
Volume 1 Book 1 is VETA Text
Volume 1 Book 2 is VETA drawings
Volume 2 Book 1 is AXAF Text.
Volume 2 Book 2 is AXAF drawings
