Welcome to X-Ray Astronomy Program Working Group

The XAPWG is an ad hoc committee reporting to the SEU Subcomittee (SEUS) on the status of the discipline of X-ray Astronomy. It is charged with presenting a program of activities in this field for consideration in NASA's Strategic Plan. This will be in the form of a "White-Paper" Report that updates the 1994 Report of the XAPWG entitled "A 15-Year Plan for X-ray Astonomy 1994-2008".

The 1994 Report can be obtained from Dr Louis J Kaluzienski. at NASA HQ. The current working draft of the White Paper Report is available below.

Background

The XAPWG presented an interim report on the status of its report to the SEUS on February 22, 1999. This presentation of about 30 viewgraphs is available for viewing. It reflects the results of two meetings of the XAPWG plus one public meeting that was held at the AAS meeting January 1999, in Austin, TX.

A list of the members of the XAPWG is available. We encourage people to contact the members with comments and suggestions regarding plans for X-ray Astronomy. The membership list includes e-mail addresses, or you can send your inputs to the Working Group Chairperson and they will be sent to the entire Working Group.

The Working Group met for a final time during the Charleston AAS-HEAD meeting in April to complete discussions and draft a final report. This draft was posted on this Web Site, and also submitted to NASA HQ and the SEUS for final comments and discussion. Through an e-mail dialogue the final report has been completed and is now available to the community. A PostScript version of the report is also available.
