Starbase
An /rdb-like DBMS with Astronomical Extensions
Starbase was developed by John Roll of the the Optical and Infrared
Division of SAO. It
is largely compatible with the /rdb system of Manis, Schaffer, and
Jø rgensen ("UNIX Relational Database Management",1988, Prentice
Hall), with extensions to support astronomical datasets. Its important
features include:
- ASCII database tables, easily accessed and manipulated using
standard unix utilities
- awk-based query language
- easy addition of user-defined database operators
- support for astronomical coordinate notation
- routines for precession and conversion between FK4 and FK5
- Starlink Astrometry routines
- enhanced database search capabilities
- IRAF support
