ProtoEXIST EXIST Beyond Einstein

Welcome to the ProtoEXIST web site at CfA

ProtoEXIST is a balloon-borne wide-field hard X-ray survey project, which will be a prototype experiment for a next generation hard X-ray survey mission - the Energetic X-ray Imaging Survey Telescope (EXIST). EXIST is selected as a candidate for Black Hole Finder Probe (BHFP) under the NASA Beyond Einstein program. EXIST will perform sensitive hard X-ray survey over the entire sky and it will serve as a Next Generation GRB Observatory, with sensitivity, resolution and bandwidth that will greatly extend the present capabilities of the Swift mission now operating.

ProtoEXIST will be a pathfinder for the EXIST mission in both technology and science. ProtoEXIST is currently being developed at CfA along with several collaborators at Caltech, NASA GSFC, and LLNL/SLAC. This website summarizes some aspects of the development of ProtoEXIST as well as provides links to EXIST and related missions.
