Phoswich Detector
Phoswich detector is composed of two joined scintillators with different
decay time constants. By discriminating on the pulse shape, one can
distinguish events interacting in either crystal. EXITE2 phoswich
detector uses NaI(Tl) which has 230 ns decay time and CsI(Na) with 680
ns decay time. The CsI crystal is used to shield the NaI crystal
from X-rays entering from the detector rear and sides.
