X-ray Binaries

Image of a normal star and a neutron star

The neutron star's gravity pulls matter from the normal star in this binary star system. The matter swirls around the neutron star because it cannot hold the matter at the rate it is flowing towards it. The neutron star locks the matter by means of gravity and therefore it orbits around the neutron star.

The green star represents the normal star the white star with the clouds of gas encircling it respesents the neutron star. The neutron star is drawing the matter out of the normal star by means of gavity.
Animation of a neutron star burster

The spinning neutron star obtains matter when it is circled by a normal star. When a certain amount of matter deposits itself on the star the star gives off a brief explosion sending out X-rays. The X-rays are represented by the flash of light in the animation.
